When it comes to trench coats there are two types I really like. First one is the casual, short, cotton trench and the other one is the long, more elegant version. Although the short trench can sometimes look too simple or obvious (we all know the feeling of going out on a rainy day and seeing all the girls wearing this exact coat), the truth is, it's so much easier to wear. You don't have to worry about matching it with the rest of your outfit, because it goes well with almost anything, and it will never get in your way. Long trench, on the other hand, can look weird with some clothes and may touch the floor while you are sitting or if you hang it on a chair so you always have to think about the way you are sitting or where you're hanging your coat. And let's face it, that can be exhausting. Still, I love the way the long trench looks. It's so elegant and chic and you can do wonderful things with it. I like to channel a dose of Parisian vibe (or at least what seems to me like a Parisian vibe) with striped clothes and comfortable flats. You can also wear it with sneakers in the spirit of the new sportswear trend or with high waisted pants and knee high boots. Like I always say, I don't like fashion rules, but try to avoid wearing it with jeans that are too baggy or you may end up with a weird looking silhouette. Also, too many layers under the long trench is not a good idea, if the coat loses its shape the whole outfit looks unbalanced. At the end, it's all about trying it out. Try the outfit first to see what goes well with your trench coat and what doesn't.
