For this week I picked a dress that's an integral part of popular culture and has been recreated many times since it first appeared. Recently I've seen a take on YSL dress it in Katy Pery's video (I'm not the biggest fan of hers, but it's interesting to mention it) and couple of years ago Forever 21 did a dress inspired by the original version. It's called a YSL Mondrian dress and it first appeared as a part of YSL collection inspired by modern art. Although the work of other artist did influence Yves Saint Laurent, six dressed inspired by Mondrian attracted the most attention and by this day remained the most recognisable part of the collection. Here you can see one of the dresses next to one of the Mondrian's paintings in the first picture. I took both photos in Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (Piet Mondrian was Dutch). The rest of the photos are original photos taken in the 60s when the collection was launched.
