Life skills: how to build a personal brand



Branding used to be one of those things that only people who went to business school would mention during parties and dinners, in order to impress someone. Sure, the rest of us knew branding and brands existed, but we didn't think much about it. As the things in this incredible world we live in started to change more rapidly each day, branding is something even your 80 years old neighbor mentions when she talks about her favourite kind of soup. 

If you want to (successfully) work in a creative field, or to have a business of your own, you have to start thinking about your personal brand early on. It's not only about the picture you create, you are your brand. 

Your skill set, your habits, personality, all that goes in your personal brand.

Some people are just naturally gifted and can create their brands spontaneously and without thinking (like all of those young successful Youtubers). Others have to work for it more, but it's not impossible. 


1. Know your strengths and weaknesses


The chain is only as strong as its weakest link. 

You need to be aware of the things you do well, but you also need to face the things you are not so great at. 

This is the main reason why some people have the problem with creating their own business or working on their own. They are not ready to admit they are bad at something. Once you know your weak spots you can work on improving them. Also, you should focus on using the skills you are good at more.


2. Always be yourself


This is the main point of creating the personal brand. To show the world who you are. I see so many bloggers out there who are copying someone else. Why be a lousy copy when you can be a perfectly original individual? Here I'm not talking about inspiration, it's good to have someone who inspires you, but don't fall into the trap of copying someone.


3. Find your passion


You can't have a successful brand if you are not 100% happy with what you do. That's why so many people quit when they start working on their blogs or other similar projects. 

You need to have a passion for what you are doing.

 Only that way you'll never give up and you will be ready to put up with all the hard work and problems coming your way.

4. Work with people who have similar views


Having a support network is extremely important! I can't stress this enough. I'm someone how rarely asks for help and I always think the sucess only counts if you achieve it yourself. This is simply not true. 

You need to share your ideas with someone, a person who works in the same field and understands your doubts. 

Since I've started working with Ana, blogging is so much easier. We constantly send each other texts with new ideas and old doubts, nothing boosts creativity like brainstorming.


5. Stop doing things that don't make you grow


When I started writing my blog I was writing mainly about beauty. Soon enough, I got tired of that and all my posts started to sound boring and repetitive. I didn't want to stop writing about beauty products because I thought that will make me a quitter. But I've soon realized I would be much happier publishing only fashion posts and it completely transformed my blog. 

You have to enjoy what you do and when you are done with one phase don't be afraid to move on!

 Nothing ruins creativity like not moving forward.


6. Get used to working hard


You'll soon realized you have to work 24/7 to maintain your brand. Sometimes you'll even be surprised with the amount of work you'll do during the day. Today I was working 12 hours straight and I've just realized that when I've checked the time. 

The point is you won't even notice how much you are working when you are doing something you love. 

But it does take a lot of work!





Brendiranje je bilo jedna od onih stvari koju su ljudi sa FON-a pominjali na žurkama i u gostima kada bi želeli nekoga da zadive. Naravno, mi ostali smo znali da brendiranje i brendovi postoje, ali smo to uzimali zdravo za gotovo i nismo razmišljalji o njima. Kako su stvari u ovom neverovatnom svetu u kome živimo počele da se menjaju brzinom svetlosti, brend je nešto što i vaša komšinica od 80 godina pominje kada priča o svojoj omiljenoj supi.

Ako želite da (uspešno) radite u kreativnom polju, ili imate svoj biznis, o svom  ličnom brendu morate rano da počnete da razmišljate. To nije samo slika koju pred drugima ostavljate, vi ste svoj brend. 

Vaš set veština, navike, ličnost sve to ulazi u sastav ličnog brenda. 


Neki ljudimi su prirodno nadareni i stvaranje ličnog brenda im spontano ide od ruke (kao recimo uspešnim Jutjuberima). Drugi na tome moraju više da rade, ali nije nemoguće.


1. Morate da poznajete svoje vrline i mane


Lanac je jak koliko i njegova najslabija karika. 

Treba da budete svesni stvari koje radite dobro, ali morate da se suočite i sa stvarima u kojima niste sjajni. 

Jedan od glavnih razloga zbog koga mnogi imaju problem kod započinjanja svog biznisa ili samostalnog posla je to što ne žele da se pomire sa činjenicom da im neke stvari ne idu od ruke. Kada upoznate svoje slabe tačke možete da radite na tome da ih popravite. Takođe možete i više da koristite veštine u kojima ste stvarno dobri.


2. Uvek budite ono što jeste


Ovo je glavna poenta stvaranja sopstvenog brenda. Da biste pokazali svetu ko ste. Koliko sam samo blogera videla koji nekoga kopiraju. Zašto da budete nečija loša kopija kada možete da budete savršeno jedinstvena osoba? Ovde ne govorim o inspiraciji, dobro je da imate nekoga ko vas inspiriše, ali nemojte da upadnete u zamku kopiranja.

3. Pronađite svoju strast


Ne možete da budete uspešni ako niste 100% zadovoljni onim što radite. Ovo je razlog zbog koga mnogo ljudi odustaje od blogova ili sličnih projekata. 

Morate da imate istinsku strast prema onome što radite. 

Samo tako nikada nećete odustati i bićete spremni da se suočite sa svim teškim radom i problemima koji nadolaze.


4. Radite sa ljudima koji slično razmišljaju


Jako je bitno da imate nekoga ko vas podržava! To ne mogu dovoljno da naglasim. Ja sam neko ko retko traži pomoć i mislim kako se uspeh računa samo ako ste ga sami postigli. Ovo jednostavno nije istina. 

Potreban vam je neko sa kime ćete deliti ideje, osoba koja radi u istom polju i razume vaše nedoumice i sumnje. 

Od kad sam počela da sarađujem sa Anom, blogovanje mi je neuporedivo lakše. Stalno jedna drugoj šaljemo poruke sa novim idejama i starim sumnjama, ništa ne podstiče kreativnost kao brejnstorming.

5. Prestanite da radite stvari koje vas ne unapređuju


Kada sam započela svoj blog pisala sam uglavnom o lepoti. Ubrzo mi je to dosadilo i svi postovi su počeli slično da zvuče i ponavljali su se. Nisam želela da prestanem da pišem o proizvodima za negu jer sam mislila da ću tako biti neko ko lako odustaje. Ali sam ubrzo shvatila da ću biti mnogo srećnija ako objavljujem samo modne postove i to je transformisalo moj blog. 

Morate da uživate u onome što radite i kada završite sa jednom fazom nemojte da se plašite da pređete na nešto novo! 

Ništa ne uništava kreativnost kao stagnacija.

6. Naviknite se da dosta radite


Vrlo brzo shvatite da je održavanje ličnog brenda posao koji nikada ne prestaje. Ponekad će i da vas iznenadi sve što ste uspeli da postignete u toku jednog dana. Danas sam recimo radila 12 sati skoro bez prestanka i tek sam sada to shvatila kada sam pogledala na sat. 

To i jeste poenta, nećete ni primetiti kako vreme leti dok radite ono što volite.

 Ali jeste potrebno dosta rada!
