There are only a couple of items that remind me of early 2010s fashion as much as a bodycon dress. Although they are still going strong, there was a certain phase back then when everyone was wearing them. Even I still have a few I got at the time, but I was never 100% happy with them. First of all, I don't like tight clothes that much and there's also the fact that most of them look weird on, no matter how skinny of fit you are. That's just what they do. Before writing this I did a bit of googling to find some inspiration and I noticed I don't like the way most of the dresses fit. In most cases they weren't faltering at all, I think I liked only two of three of them. Like I said, it has nothing to do with they way your body looks, just the whole cut is mainly unfaltering. Considering all that, there are a couple of things you can do in order to pick the perfect bodycon dress.

Material is the first thing you should pay attention to. If a bodycon dress is made of jersey or other thin materials, it will definitely look cheap and won't fit your body well. Here I'm wearing a dress from H&M, it's from their Studio line and I do have a thing for Studio items. It's made out of thick material and although it's stretchy, it fits very well. Even with the best material in the world, the dress might not fit well, so make sure to find a cut that looks the best on you. I find that sometimes details add to the elegance of the dress and in the same time make it fit better. Normally my hips stick out a bit in body con dresses (nothing wrong with that, I quite like my hips), but this one has a knot in front that ties the whole look together and makes the hips less visible. The last thing is accessorizing. I wore this dress on its own for a night out, but if you want to make it day appropriate, add a jacket on top. Depending on the type of your dress, you can go for denim jackets, blazers, or even kimonos. Here I added my new favourite blazer and together with the earrings it gave a retro note to the whole look. Whatever you choose, always make sure you feel good in your clothes. Only the dress you fell great in is the perfect bodycon dress for you.
